NMC CBT Test Information
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Test of Competence first part exam is a computer-based test (CBT) that lasts 4 hours and consists of 120 multiple-choice questions.
It is designed for nurses trained outside of the EU (European Union) and the European Economic Area who choose to work as a nurse in the United Kingdom.
The first part of the exam is a computer-based examination (CBT). The multiple-choice CBT is valid in most countries and can be done at a Pearson VUE research centre.
The second part is a practical nursing or midwifery examination, also known as an impartial formal health examination (OSCE). The OSCE can only be taken after passing the CBT, and it is only accessible in the UK at a specified testing centre.
Before beginning the application process, nurses seeking registration in the UK should ensure that they have read and appreciated the conditions for registering as a nurse in the UK. Only after the NMC has informed you that you must take the test of competence, should you schedule your CBT with Pearson VUE.
You can take CBT exams in most countries around the world at Pearson VUE research centres.
The NMC will send you an email 48 hours after you take the exam to let you know if you passed or failed. You can also access your results by signing into the Pearson Vue account you form when you schedule your examination.
